    Opening Doc (2002)

Ok, I'm banging away on Word 2002 with a custom .Net COM addin. Not your everyday stuff.
Nevertheless, whenever I open Word without the COM addin installed, Word
opens with a blank document named Document47. How can I reset that to
Document1 so I can be like all the normal people?

If this happened only once, I'd guess you had a hidden instance of Word that has participated in the creation of 46 new documents and did not close properly. If it happens regularly, even after Windows restarts, I'm mystified.

I've had this happen (well only to document 3 or 4 with Word 2000 (not 47) when Word didn't close properly. I even seem to recall it happening when I had a website open that said Word (at least with Word 95). And even Ctrl+Alt+Del didn't always cure it. I had to reboot.

    Jefferson,
It happens all the time. I restarted the PC as Phil suggests and that indeed resets the number back to 1. I think there may have been a problem in the interop code, but I'm not sure.

Frist I tried logging out and in. That didn't help. Then I shutdown and restarted the PC. That reset the number to 1. I think there was something in the code that was not letting Word shutdown properly (though Word gave no indication of such). Thanks for your post; you sent me in the right direction.
