    Error on page (2002 SP1)

When browsing the inet, I ocassionaly get a "error on page" message at the bottom of the screen, and cannot get into the page I have clicked on. No matter how many times I try, - the page will not display and the same message appears. I tried switching from Internet Explorer, to Netscape, thinking it might be the browser. Still happens. I've also tried right clicking, and choosing "open page in new window". The message changes to "Done" but the page is blank. Any suggestions?

    Ramrod--
The number and exact wording of your error message would help because some of them are pretty similar, but have different fixes. You can try registering the urlmon.dll file. Takes a second.
    1) 306831 Error Message When You Browse the Web: An Error has Occurred in the Script on this Page.
    2) Bonzi software cause a similar message sometimes and for that you boot off bonzi: 26224.
    3) And there is good 'ole 241344 Error Message the Page Cannot Be Displayed

There are a few others, but searching works best when you put in the exact wording and any number wherever your looking.

Could be an error on the web page and no one can get in. The webmaster may need to make a correction. I have NOT seen a perfect page yet.

Re: Error on page (2002 SP1)

    Hi, Ramrod ~

This is actually an Internet Explorer issue rather than one of XP. <img src=/S/smile.gif border=0 alt=smile width=15 height=15>

If the message is in the status bar at the bottom of your screen, then this is probably a scripting error moreso than a typical page error. If you double-click on the words 'error on page' you will get a small window that pops up and then click on the 'Show Details>>' button. If it says 'object' somewhere in there, you may be missing a plug-in such as Flash or Shockwave, for example. If it says 'class not registered' or similar, then try this if you are using Internet Explorer 6:

    1) Click 'Start > 'Run' then either type or copy and paste the following:

    Regsvr32 urlmon.dll

    2) Click 'OK'.
    3) You should get a message "DllRegisterServer in urlmon.dll succeeded"
    4) Click 'OK' and that should be it!

Can you give us an example of a site (it's URL) that produces this error?

Re: Error on page (2002 SP1)

Well, I've tried all the suggested fixes and tests.
#1 If I click on the line at the bottom of the page... I get different messages every time.
#2 I've done the Regserv thing with no improvement.
#3 I have tried to get on to the same page using my networked computer running Win 98, same time/day - works fine every time. This is why I thought it may be something in XP that's causing the problem rather than explorer or netscape.
If it is Java, flash, shockwave etc...how do I go about fixing? I just tried to add a smile to this post. Error on Page...error says " line 111 character 5 The character did not execute". I have seen this type before. One other thing.. When I am using Netscape, and hit F1 for help, the help screen flashes and disappears. I can hold the F1 key down and the help screen flashes rapidly, but as soon as I let go, no help screen...

    Hi, ramrod ~

Have you reviewed your Security & Advanced settings in Internet Options?

Do you have either the latestJava Virtual Machine from MS? Or you may wish to install instead Sun's Java 2 Platform Standard Edition if you have V5.00.3809.

When you tried to insert a smiley where you using a pop-up stopper?

    The F1 situation....I'm not sure what to do there. <img src=/S/sorry.gif border=0 alt=sorry width=15 height=15>

Re: Error on page (2002 SP1)

Many thanks for all the help... I installed the Java update, and disabled the pop up stopper. Things work fine. The Netscape help screen was affected by the pop up stopper. Makes me wonder how to stop those nasty pop ups that I don't want, and still have a system that operates like I want it to. No pop - -ups..... seems like a catch 22. Thanks again. <img src=/S/brickwall.gif border=0 alt=brickwall width=25 height=15>

Re: Error on page (2002 SP1)

You didn't mention which pop up stopper you had, but for IE, Popup Manager might do the trick. It's well behaved and configurable. (Says a recent convert <img src=/S/smile.gif border=0 alt=smile width=15 height=15> )

    <img src=/S/whisper.gif border=0 alt=whisper width=29 height=17> The very one I converted from. Great product, but I found Popup Manager more to my liking (and only use IE). <img src=/S/smile.gif border=0 alt=smile width=15 height=15>
