Window will not minimize

Running W98 SE. I have one application window (happens to be Quicken) that suddenly will not minimize. When I start the application, no window opens but I get a new application bar at teh bottom of the screen. If I click on it nothing happens. If I right click and select Maximize, the window will open full screen. If I click on the minimize button in that window, the entire window closes.

I have had this problem a long time ago but forget what the solution was.

Have you tried removing (Uninstalling) it and then reinstalling it? Quicken has been known for issues that the installed was clobbered.

As I said, I have encountered this problem before with Windows and I believe that the solution did not involve uninstalling and reinstalling the application.

Re: Window will not minimize

Hi Jim:
I'm not sure if this is similar to a problem I had with Word under Win 95. I'm also not positive that I follow everything...when you minimize, the window is supposed to close, no???

Anyhow, on the chance that the minimized & restored views have become the same, try one of the following:

One solution is:

1. Open Quicken and some other program, such as Notepad. (These should be the only two tasks visible on the Task bar.)
2. Right-click on a blank spot on the Task bar. Windows displays a Context menu.
3. On the Context menu, choose Cascade Windows. Quicken's program window (along with Notepad

Re: Window will not minimize

Phil, I am not sure if he is talking about the "Minimize" or the "Restore" button either. The "Minimize" button IS supposed to close the Window and send the program to the Task bar only.

I have to wonder if this is just not a "placement" issue. The "Restore" window may just simply be "off the screen" -- therefore it appears to be missing. I supsect your technique 'recaptures' the Restore window and places it into a more desirable location -- like on the screen!

Phil,

Yes, the "cascade" selection did fix my problem and was what I was trying to remember from when I encountered the same problem a long time ago.

Thanks for your help.

You're right. It does place it back on the screen. I was too lazy to post the whole tip.
