Backup MyPC - backup Size limit?

I just downloaded the evaluation version of Backup MyPC by Stomp. I tried to do an unattended backup of my files, totalling just over 4 Gigs, onto a removable drive with plenty of room. Just over the 4G mark, I got a message that the media was full (or something like this). I had to continue by saving the rest into a new backup file. In other words, the backup was split between two files & required manual intervention.

Anyone familiar with Backup MyPC who knows how I can do an unattended backup? (I upgraded from Vertias Backup Exec 4.21 which actually QUITS just over the 4G mark.)

    Thanks in advance.

Re: Backup MyPC - backup Size limit?

From the mouth of what I hope is an applicable horse:
    Stomp KB TechNote ID: 231614:

    Symptom:
When backing up approximately 4 GB or more to file on a FAT 32 formatted hard drive, a file limitation error occurs.

    Exact Error Message:
The backup file has reached the maximum size allowed by the file system

    Solution:
The error "The backup file has reached the maximum size allowed by the file system" will appear when attempting to back up approximately 4 GB or more to a file on FAT 32. This is a limitation of the FAT 32 file system. A workaround to this limitation is to split the backups into backup sets under 4 GB total size.

Thanks, Leif. I should have been able to find this. <img src=/S/blush.gif border=0 alt=blush width=15 height=15> Nevertheless, there doesn't appear to be any real workaround if I want to back up to a removable hard drive.

Do you know if Win XP has this limitation. I'm using Win98 SE right now.

    Hi, Phil ~

XP formatted in the NTFS releases you from those limitations.

Thanks, Bruce. I don't want to drag out a thead off topic, but do you know if there are disadvantages to the NTFS format?

Re: Backup MyPC - backup Size limit?

Thank you again, Leif. That's a great discussion. I don't see a reason to switch except for this backup problem. It also seems that I didn't need to upgrade from Backup Exec, as the problem really didn't go away. I'll just have to figure a way to do 2 smaller complete backups, I guess.
    Cheers,
