Formula to find last cell (XL2K)

I'm too sleepy to figure this one out. I need a formula in E1 that equals the last value in column A. TIA --Sam

If, as it appears, the last value is also the largest, the the easy answer is:

=MAX(A:A)

If the underlying format of column A is text (not numeric), you can apply....

    =INDEX(A:A,MATCH(REPT("z",20),A:A))

or make use of the existence of the (numeric) date range...

    =INDEX(A:A,MATCH(9.99999999999999E+307,B:)
