Long Filename Backup

Every time some friends of mine start W98, they get the attached error message. I cannot find what app is causing it. There's nothing in autoexec or configsys that would cause it. They're running W98 SE and Norton System Doctor starts at startup. Clicking "OK" and continuing to operate produces no problems.

    Ideas?

This looks like output from the LFNBACK utility. Can you search all the usual locations to see if lfnback appears in the registry, an INI file etc.

    Re: Long Filename Backup

Looked through the entire C drive and the only file that had a reference to lfnback was user.ns3 that has a modify date of 06-14-2002. Doesn't seem likely. Other ideas?

Try searching the registry as well
Try running MSCONFIG and looking at everything that runs during startup

Registry - Sorry, I forgot to mention that I had searched the registry for LFNBACKUP with no results.

MSCONFIG/Startup doesn't seem to show anything that would invoke LFNBACKUP (see attachment).

    Accodring to pacs-portal sulfnbj.exe is

Left as the result of being infected by the PE_MAGISTR.DAM virus. This virus infects system files and renames them (changing one letter) before adding them to the Run keys in the registry. Once the virus is removed via anti-virus software, delete the infected file and remove the key from the registry
