Folder view in My Computer (XP Pro)

I like the info displayed in My Computer. Is there a way to make the folder view in My Computer the default view vs the single pane view? As it is, I have to click on My Computer - View - Explorer Bar - Folder, which is a rather long process, especially when I forget to keep MC open and close it by mistake.

I suspect there is a way to make Explorer open in a certain folder vs the default Desktop view but I would rather use the My Computer function.

I think I know what you are after. Check
130510: Command-Line Switches for Windows Explorer - I suspect it's the /n switch that is controlling the view you want.

    Try creating a shortcut with
    %SystemRoot%explorer.exe /n, c:
    - that should open c: drive in single-pane mode.
(If it doesn't open in the type of view you want, that may be in the Tools > Folder Options setup)

Sorry, Leif - that didn't do waht I was after in XP Pro's My Computer. When I right click on Explorer desktop icon I can change things around in Properties but when I right click on My Computer desktop icon and click on Properties, it takes me to System Properties.

    Hi, Peter ~

I think I see what you are after and this will get you there with 1 button by doing this:

Open 'My Computer' > 'View' > 'Toolbars' > 'Customize...' This will open the 'Customize Toolbar' window

On the left-hand side under 'Available toolbar buttons:', scroll to & select this

Click the 'Add' button in the middle and it will then appear in the right-hand side under 'Current toolbar buttons:'

Click 'Close' in the upper right-hand corner and now that button will appear on your toolbar[/list]Now you will have the view you want at the push of that button and back

Excellent, Bruce. Many thanks! That helps a lot!

But is there a way to get this view by default? Seems like it should be able to happen....

    Hi, Peter ~

    Glad to have helped .

I would believe that there is a way of making the windows open to this view in a default mode, but I am not aware of an easy way to do this outside of resource or reg hacks.

After you have made all settings that you want to Exokorer or My Computer or My Documents all you need to do, is go to Tool, Folder Options and then the View tab and select the "Apply to ALL folders". This should do it.

    Hi, DaveA ~

Actually, I considered this, but the above step applies to folder views rather than window or explorer views. I edited that step out of my first reply as after testing the info I dole out here, it does not work in that instance.
