Spanish spelling & grammar (Word 2002)

I have someone who wants to spell (and grammar) check documents in Spanish. The language shows correctly on Tools--Language. When she starts the check, it seems to be working and finds a few things. Then it stops and gives an error message along the lines of "Word has to close now." All she can do is click on OK.

Is this likely to be some problem in the file, or is this another Word quirk? Any suggestions on getting around this? She doesn't speak Spanish and wants to use this to raise questions about potential errors so she can ask an expert.

    Thanks for any info!

I don't have a complete answer for you, but I can tell you that merely because the language shows under Tools/Language doesn't mean it's installed. She must first make sure that the Spanish language proofing tools are installed. Next, the language must be set to Spanish.

Considering how the grammer proofing tools work with English, I wouldn't trust them (although I haven't used 2002). I think it's next to impossible to proofread a document when you don't speak the language, so it's likely that the "expert" will have to proofread the entire document. <img src=/S/smile.gif border=0 alt=smile width=15 height=15>

Re: Spanish spelling & grammar (Word 2002)

    Phil,

I imagine at least one expert has read it already, but they're only human, too. Of course, I realize the odds of Word catching anything significant are very small.
But she wants to do this, so my next question is "How do I check that she has all the right stuff installed?" Our official help desk folks do the installation around here, but if I want any sort of quick response, I'll have to check it myself and let them know what, if anything, is missing. So where do I look?

    Thanks,

    Lin
