    WinFax Automation Code (Access 2000)

I need to send faxes to WinFax 10.0 from Access 2000, entirely in code (picking up the necessary info from an Access form). All that Symantec has to offer is some antiquated DDE code, that doesn't work in Access 2000 (it references nonexistent Label properties). I would much prefer to use Automation code, in any case. I see several WinFax type libraries in the Object Browser, but none of them have any help. Does anyone have sample WinFax Automation code?

A search on google yields several hits.

    This one looks promising.

It looks like you have to get the SDK to use Automation. Curiously, on the Symantec Web site I got no hits when searching on "Automation". I will look into the SDK, but in the meanwhile (after much trial & error experimentation), I was able to get the DDE code (substantially modified) to work in Access 2000, so I may just leave it at that.

I used WinFAx extensively with Access 97 to send hundreds of customized faxes at a time, but I let Word handle the actual creation and sending of the Fax because it was easier to make WinFax work from Word. It sounds like that may not have changed much. <img src=/S/shrug.gif border=0 alt=shrug width=39 height=15>

The WinFax sample code would be outdated even for Word 97. It is WordBasic code working with DDE! I did manage to get it working (after substantial modification) in Access 2000, and another lounger pointed me to some info about the WinFax SDK, which apparently supports real Automation code, so I am going to check that out too.

If you have Office 2000 upgrade, the Winfax macro works if you load it in Word 97 then upgrade to Word 2000. I know this is probably no help to you now but it's an interesting quirk.
I'm afraid I couldn't work out the logic of most of the code so I just left it as it is..

Re: WinFax Automation Code (Access 2000)

That would be in Word 2000, I think -- the same code most likely wouldn't work in Access 2000. Anyway, I tried to look at the Symantec Word macro code and just got the message that the project couldn't be viewed, so I just worked out the DDE syntax for Access 2000 myself. Next, I will try their SDK (it has all sorts of disclaimers that no support is available).
