    error message (Win2000)

    When I try to save An error occurred while reconnecting P: to krameradmin Microsoft Windows Network : The local device name is already in use, This connection has not been restored. I am unable to save. Help, this only happens night shift late in the evening.

    The message indicates that some other UNC has made a connection to that drive letter. You should be able to look at My Computer and determine what that is. The next challenge is to figure out who is doing it - could be some sort of periodic task that runs at night.

    Sometimes launching Windows Explorer and trying to access the mapped drive will restore the connection so that Word doesn't have to try to reestablish it. You then can switch back to Word and save as usual.

    Not sure why this sometimes happens, but I haven't found it troubling enough to give up Windows 2000 for XP!
