Service Pack 3 install problem (Office 2000 SR-1)

While trying to install Service Pack 3 I get a message "the expected version of the product was not found on your system". I have installed SR-1 from the SR-1 Patch CD about 2 years ago. My Office applications say SR-1. I searched this CD and my C drive for Data1.msi to determine whether I have SR-1 or SR-1a as suggested in the MS KB article. I am unable to find any file named Data1.msi . Is there some other way to determine if I have SR-1a?

To determine which SR Patch is installed, follow instructions in MSKB Article 261934

The most probable cause for your error message: you have Windows Installer v.1.1 on your computer. Upgrade it to v.2.0 (INFO: MSI: How to Obtain the Windows Installer Engine)

Re: Service Pack 3 install problem (Office 2000 SR-1)

I followed the instruction in MSKB Article 261934 and determined that the CD SR-1 Patch that I used is SR-1a. The data1.msp file is 27,412,992 in size and the revision GUI matches SR-1a. I am fairly confident I have Windows Installer 2.0, but I am not positive. I am running Windows XP SP-1 and have installed all the updates. Is there a way to find out if I have the latest Windows Installer?

I tried running msigetfileversion from the command prompt and Windows XP returns an Unknown Command error

Sorry - it was not meant to be so complicated - I didn't read the article fully.

Run a search for msi.dll - when you find it, right_click and select properties...

Re: Service Pack 3 install problem (Office 2000 SR-1)

Yes much easier. I do have Version 2 (msi.dll). So this takes me back to my original question, Why can't I install Office 2000 Service Pack 3?
