    Changing Clipboard/Paste options (Word 2000)

Is there a way of changing the default options for using the clipboard in Word 2000? I have 2 main questions?

    Question 1
Word uses the Office Clipboard, and clears out the Windows clipboard when it opens. This question has been asked in the past; "is there any way of stopping the clipboard from being cleared out when Word 2000 is opened? "

    Question 2
When copying and pasting an image from the internet, the default is to paste in HTML format ( i.e. to paste a link rather than the picture itself). It is possible to do Edit|Paste Special..., but changing the default action would be preferable.

Both these topics have been covered in this forum previously.

Question 1 got a fair bit of coverage recently and appears to be related to the add-ins you have running. If you disable these add-ins then the clipboard wont be cleared. This is not a Word issue but a third party issue. Try this post or this one for things to look for.

Question 2. It wont change the default paste options but you could use a solution like Jefferson suggests in this post.

    Thanks Andrew,

I'd already looked at a couple of these threads and I don't think there's any solution in them for me. Thread 219656 starts with the same problem as my Question 1(Clipboard empties when opening Word) , but then changes to the same problem as 219696 without coming to a resolution. 219696 is fascinating, but not really relevant to either of my problems as far as I can see.

My question 2 (picture copied off the web is pasted as an INCLUDEPICTURE with a URL, rather than pasted as an image) might be solved by the macro solution in 158488; but I'd prefer it if I could simply change the default action in Word.

    Grrr!

Regarding the clipboard, I'd take a look at some of the add-ins that you might have. The thread mentions <post#=197827>post 197827</post#>. See if it happens when you start Word from the command line with the /a switch.

As far as pasting a picture, I don't have access to Word 2000 right now. However, I don't think you can change the default without VBA. Either you need to intercept the EditPaste command or have a macro that pastes pictures the way you want. You can assign this to a little used keyboard shortcut (like Alt+C) or a toolbar button so it would be quick.

Re: Changing Clipboard/Paste options (Word 2000)

Question 1. I'm stumped - if its not an add-in I don't know what causes it. I haven't seen it myself.

Question 2. How are you copying the picture? If you right click it and select copy it should come in without the link although haven't tested this on Word 2000. I certainly get a different result here in Word 97. I don't think you will have any luck changing the default action in Word unless you use a macro (which could hijack the paste or paste special command) Hijacking the commands will take some coding but should give you the result you desire.

Re: Changing Clipboard/Paste options (Word 2000)

I'm working through 197827 - so far I've found that the /a switch keeps the clipboard. I'll try out the other procedures too - and see if I can pin down what's causing it.

As for pasting a picture that still results in an INCLUDEPICTURE with a url, so I've taken up the suggestion of recording a macro and assigning it to Alt +V to do the Paste Special |Device Independent Bitmap.

Many thanks guys! -I'll follow up with a final note when I've been through 197827.

Just as a footnote, Word stores Pictures more efficiently than Device Independent Bitmaps.
