WinUpdate keep bugging me (XPSP1)

    Hello,

I keep getting reminded to download 2 new security updates. When I go to the Windows update site and do it, it says that I already have them installed. So what is that about? When I click to see my history, it says these last 2 were installed successfully, and then a bunch of re-trys...so how I tell if these security updates are really installed on my system or not? Please help!! I certainly want to make sure I am protected.
    Thanks
    Nancy

    Hi Nancy--
Go to Ctrl Panel>Add Remove. You successful hot fixes or security updates should list there. You can also double check to make sure you have all the security updates at the MS Security Web Site. How to turn off the annoying false alarm that repeats even though you have an update installed I'm not sure. I do remember Dave A. mentioning that Pop Up Killers are one potential conflict with Win Update. If you're running one you might try turning it off and seeing if you're still getting the same update notifications with that particularly fix installed.

    Hi, Nancy ~

If you are on top of the updates and tired of Windows buggin' you, then do this:

Right-click 'My Computer' > 'Properties' > 'Automatic Updates' tab
Uncheck the box next to 'Keep my computer up-to-date...', click 'Apply', then 'OK' [/list]
