    Keyboard Shortcut (word 2002)

Have just upgraded to XP and am fumbling around like a newbie.

Wishing to create a keyboard shortcut to open my Word program and can not find it in XP. I believe in the old version it was simply done from the explorer window by right clicking on the program and choosing "create keyboard shortcut" or some such wording.

    Would appreiate and assist.

    Thanks......

    Re: Keyboard Shortcut (word 2002)

I'm new here, but I will offer a solution. You should be able to go to start/programs/word and then right click on word to create a shortcut. If you happen to have Office, then you can insert you Office CD and install the Office toolbar, which you can have at the top of your screen in autohide and right click on the left side of the toolbar and check programs. This will give you an icon for all your installed programs and you don't have to go back to the desktop when you have programs open. I know this works in Office 97 and 2000. I don't know for sure about Office XP.

Thanks for the reply........but am trying to create a keyboard shortcut to open the program. Previously I used Ctrl+Alt+W to open the program. You can create and assign key combinations....just cant find the proper screen in XP to execute the command.

Which version of Windows do you use? I'd like to move thread this to the appropriate discussion board for your version of Windows...

    Re: Keyboard Shortcut (word 2002)

This is a Windows question rather than a Word one.

In Windows 2000 the way to assign this command is to use a shortcut to the application (I use the one that appears in your Start menu). If you view the properties of the shortcut by right clicking it and selecting Properties, under the shortcut tab you will see a shortcut key. Your only options include Ctrl-Alt already so just click in the box and type the letter you wanted to assign.

    Thank you for the reply...

The box is there upon right clicking.......howerver in the box for "shortcut key" is says NONE and will not let me enter anything. Am sure there is a way to get to it, just havent been able to figure out how.

You can't edit or delete the "None", but you should be able to type something into the box. What happens if you click in the box and depress the (left) Ctrl, Alt or Shift key or combinations thereof?

    Have the solution..........DUH!!

Was trying to first erase the word "none" and type the key.........can not highlight and erase.......only needed to type the additional letter and the Ctr+Alt+ appeared.

    Sorry for wasting everybody's time.
