VBE Additional Controls (XL2002)

If i were to incorporate any of the Additional Controls from within the VBE to my project, would that increase the liklihood that other users would not be able to use the project? I'm working under the assumption that my spreadsheet will be used by folks who still have XL97 and XL2000 (mostly 2000).

If it depends on which control, then I am specifically interested in the Calendar Control 8.0.

Yes it would increase the chance that some users can't use your workbook. That's because it'll fail on workbook open with MISSING REFERENCES errors. This is one of the reasons I avoid using any references other than the min required MS office library (or Forms or VBA). Since any other fancy controls require a .DLL on the end users PC and you may or may not have the license to distribute that control.

Also, you'd then have to distribute you .xls file via a setup utility (create a setup.exe file to install the .DLL file along with your xls file). This is way more than I am allowed to do with my users, they just want to click on the.xls file they will not do any installation of anything.

I have used code at workbook_open event to detect Missing References. I got it from John Green's Excel VBA 2000 book (page 319) but I found out that it works fine in xl97 and xl2000 but fails in xl2002. I haven't bothered to figure out what changes are needed to get it to work in Excel XP.

Yes you are at risk that users may not have the calendar control.
AFAIK the calendar control can be downloaded from Microsoft.
