Use of SFC After SP1 Upgrade (Windows XP Pro)

have a Dell Dimension 8200 computer with windows XP Pro installed. If I
run the SFC program, will it use needed files from the updated files in SP1
and subsequent updates instead of from the C:I386 folder that was on the
computer when I received it?? There have been some discussion about this
subject but I did not see any definitive answers. Thanks for any help, Sam.

P.S. The reason for my question is because I saw the following error in my
    event viewer.

    Event Type: Warning

    Event Source: Windows File Protection

    Event Category: None

    Event ID: 64008

    Date: 12/20/2002

    Time: 4:48:31 AM

    User: N/A

    Computer: SCAMARDO

    Description:

The protected system file c:windowssystem32mydocs.dll could not be
verified as valid because Windows File Protection is terminating. Use the
SFC utility to verify the integrity of the file at a later time.

    Sam,
I believe it is supposed to use the SP-1 files in c:windowsservicepackfilesi386. Can't swear to it though.

Cowboy and Joe, many thanks for your replies. Joe, I too suspect that SFC will use the SP1 files, but unfortunately I have yet to see any official Microsoft confirmation of this fact. There have been other people posting the same question on the MS newsgroup for windows XP and they have not received a response from a MS representative or a MVP, definitively confirming what you, I, and other people suspect. Oh well, will not run the SFC unless I am really forced to. Have a good weekend, Sam.

    Sam,
Check microsoft.public.windowsxp.general. There are several threads about sfc & Sp1. Essentially it comes dwon to where the registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindowsCurrentV ersionSetup is pointing. Under 'Installation sources' it needs to have an entry similar to:
C:WINDOWSServicePackFilesi386. That should be where SFC will look for files.
