    Find dialog (97)

I want to produce the Find dialog from a button on a form, but I need to tailor the options on it. In particular, I want it to search for any part of any field as the default. How can I do this.. using Macros rather than code? Andy.

You can create a macro with the following actions:

    <table border=1><td>Action</td><td>Argument</td><td>SendKeys</td><td>%ha%n</td><td>Find</td><td></td></table>
The SendKeys action will send Alt+H to go to the Match dropdown list, A to select "Any part of field", and Alt+N to select the Find What box.

Also see Knowledge Base article 120912.

How do I 'send' the spacebar to remove the tick in the 'Search only current field' box?

Just discovered that Alt-e achieves the same thing.. thanks. Andy.

An additional observation regarding Find: It works fairly well if you are working with small tables, but if you have large tables (1000s of records or more) then Find gets pretty slow. On the other hand the Filter command can quickly get you a subset of records that meet a given criteria, especially if the field is indexed. You will probably want to use VBA so you can manipulate the filter criteria however.
