trouble with DOS-based programs printing via USB

I've recently received a request from a friend of mine regarding a Clipper (DOS-based) program I made for him a long time ago, specifically about printing the reports using a new printer he has purchased, which only has a USB connection. Without resorting to buying an extra hardware just to be able to print to a USB printer from a DOS program, is there any other way to do this, like a third-party utility that might allow DOS to finally recognize USB ports?

    Thanks in advance for whatever assistance I'd get. <img src=/S/compute.gif border=0 alt=compute width=40 height=20>

Thanks for pointing out that thread. I have actually visited this thread some time ago when I researched on possible solutions for this "challenge" via the Internet. Most of the solutions outlined in the thread are just too "complicated" for my friend. I won't mind going over the suggestions myself, but I'm afraid my friend would just be too overwhelmed to go through this all by himself. Is there an existing third-party (perhaps memory-resident program) that would handle the parallel-to-USB port 'communication' in the background while DOS printing is on-going?

If you can get the instructions from there to work, you could possibly make it into a batch file with a desktop shortcut to it which your friend would only have to click to instigate...

I presume you've done a similar search on Google to myself ("dos print usb printer") and checked out links such as this one? - which in turn takes you to:
259939: Unable to Print from Command Prompt or MS-DOS Program with USB Printer

Thanks for the suggestion, Leif! I'll try to come up with a batch file that my frriend can use. And thanks for the new link you've found. I haven't come across this one when I tried Google to find these links for me. I'll also give this a try and let you know if any of these works! Thanks for all your help! <img src=/S/cheers.gif border=0 alt=cheers width=30 height=16>
