Unintended Log Ins (IE6.0/Win XP Pro)

    Hi all,
We have recently upgraded our computer from Windows 98 to Win XP Pro, and now our ISDN internet connection appears to be randomly trying to connect without prompting. We've tried the IE settings Tools -Internet Options - "Dial when a network connection is not present" (We have a small peer to peer network) and msconfig, which shows only office files. Anyone have any thoughts on the likely cause?

    Thanks in advance.

This has been covered several times - it would be worth a trawl through the IE forum.

Check in IE the setting for checking for upgrades.
    Check your Windows Update settings
Check the Software forum for AdAware, download it and run it.

    Thanks for the above,
As far as I can tell the Windows and IE settings are not causing the problem. Task Manager shows no programmes running when the connection launches. My ISP (unhelpfully) suggests installing with settings that disable the Peer to peer network. We use Outlook as a mail client, but this would not automatically log on without prompting, would it? Ids there a way I can easily check if this is the cause?

<img src=/S/hello.gif border=0 alt=hello width=25 height=29> Outlook does have an option to log on and check for email every ____ minutes, if this is ticked, it will log onto the mail server, collect mail and disconnect. Check the Outlook Mail Options.
