extracting a picture from a word document (2000)

I have a Word document with an embedded picture. I was wondering if there is a way to extract this picture into, say, a .jpg file, other than the seemingly messy method of doing a capture using a paint program. I can't seem to find anything in the Word GUI or elsewhere which allows this.

    Hi Adam:
You could do a copy & paste into a freeware utility, such as Irfanview.
    Cheers,

I tried saving as HTML and you are right, the quality degrades significantly. I'd like to try your second suggestion using PhotoDraw but I can't find the 'Paste as new image' feature???

No wonder you cant find it in PhotoDraw. What I meant to say was Microsoft Photo Editor. It comes with Office and should already be installed on your machine. You can search on the hard disk for photoed.exe if you can't find it or install it from the office disks.

Once running you will find the "Paste as New Image" under the Edit Menu

Sorry about that Chief - Missed by thaaat much.

<P ID="edit" class=small>(Edited by Andrew Lockton on 18-Feb-03 13:19. Edited to correct the wrong software package cited.)</P>You can save the file as HTML which will automatically export the graphics are JPG or TIF but it will most likely downsample the image to 72 dpi.

The best way to get the entire image resolution is to select the image and copy it and then open Microsoft Photo Editor and 'paste as new image'. This can be saved in whichever bitmap format you would like (and is supported by Photo Editor. Note pasting into other bitmap editors seems to lose resolution - you get different results for different stretched sizes of the same image.

    Hi Adam,

Before saving as HTML, reset the image size to 100%. You may also need to expand the page size and reposition the image so that all of it fits.
