    Re: Name Manager 2.2 released (97 2000 2002)

Jan Karel, once again you have created an outstanding product. The installer worked great, I was a little concerned, because I have a dual boot, WinXP/Off2K and WinNT/Off97, but it installed in in the correct system, currently the NT/97. Just discovered the Multi button; I love it!

One more item for the wish list: I would like to resize the dialog box to make it smaller. It would be nice to be able to collapse the filter side ( like the find/replace dialog), and also be able to to resize it. Resizing would be a pain, maybe you could put the buttons into a menu.

We've considered resizing options. Maybe for version 3 ?

I've also considered changing the buttons to a menu-like structure to save space on the dialog.

How does one add amenu to a userform *without the need for API calls* ? We do want to keep this utility available for MAC users you know.

    Thanks for your comments.

Good question! Guess my brain was in VB! You could have the top level be captions that display pop-up menus in their click event, but that's pretty ugly. Wonder what happens if you build the Userform in VB with a menu bar? After I get over the current time-crunch, I'll check it out. --Sam

I experimented with that method. Not too bad, but I guess not good enough <g>.

We're considering a multi-tabbed form (or whatever it is called), with some of the controls (like settings) on a second tab.

    Name Manager 2.2 released (97 2000 2002)

    <P ID="edit" class=small>(Edited by Leif on 13-Mar-04 17:08. to update link to http://www.bmsltd.ie/)</P>Hi gang!

Here's to announce we've just released a new version (2.2) of the Name Manager.

    Description:

If you are in need of a utility to manage defined names in your workbooks, this one is a must-have. List all names in your active workbook. Filter them using 13 filters, e.g. "With external references", "With errors", Hidden, Visible. Show just names that contain a substring. Show just names unused in worksheet cells. Edit them in a simple dialog or make a list, edit the list and update all names in one go. Delete, hide, unhide selected names with a single mouse click.
Created in collaboration with Charles Williams, www.decisionmodels.com and Matthew Henson (mhenson@mac.com) who ensured the utility works on Mac Excel too.
Now available: version 2.2 of the name manager,
    - Added method to fix corrupt names
    - Added Option to just list the filtered names to a list sheet
    - Added button to check the use of the first selected name
    - Improved performance (speed is up by a factor of ~ 3 !)
    - Fixed some small bugs.

    Available from:

    http://www.bmsltd.ie/mvp

    and from

    http://www.decisionmodels.com/downloads.htm

Alas, the file is too large to attach to a message here.
