    What's the OS?

These are important. There are problems with Office 97 on Windows 2000, XP
that deal with user permissions. There are workarounds. Do a search here on
Spell Check engine. You should find 2 kb article references etc on how to open
the macro engine and Spell Check engine for user lever users.

    Hi Kevin
    the OS is NT 4.
it was corrupt or missing ms-office visual basic code .dll's.

    fix:
    1. close office
    2. goto a working pc & copy VBA directory ie C:Program filesCommon FilesMicrosoft SharedVBA
    3. goto the pc not working & paste directory in same location
    4. Open word & check error message is cleared

Good show. BTW, how are you setting up the users on these NT4 PCs?
Do the user's have "admin" permissions or have you opened the registry
hives for engine access? Just curious.

    Kevin
sorry i dont understand what you mean by 'opening the registry hives for engine access'
On NT4 our users are setup as ordinary users - users have power users access locally - ie full control locally.
& the code obtains/amends info from the registry
    does that answer your question?
