CD with autorun.inf doesn't autorun

OS: W2K

I have some self-created CDs (by me and others), all of which have autorun.inf files in the root directory. From all I've seen on the Web, the INF files are correct but for some unknown reason W2K refuses to recognize the self-created CDs. It will autorun manufacturer-created CDs. Haven't tried cleaning the CD lens yet but could anything else be awry?

Thanks,
Al

Al,
Does the CD spin up? Is the volume recognized by Win2K? Can you post a list of the autorun syntax?

Joe,

The CD light blinks then goes out - so, no, it doesn't spin up as you'd expect an autorun CD would. The CD is accessible through the Windows Explorer.
On a different W2K system, the CD isn't even recognized by the OS, i.e., when you click on the CD drive, the OS asks for a CD.

The autorun.inf file is:

[AutoRun]
open=setup.exe
icon=setup.exe,0

Pretty straightforward, no?

Al,
Have you compared the contents of the manufacturer created autorun.inf files to your own self-created autorun.inf files?
Also, did your self-created CDs ever autorun in that machine or any other? Some older CD-ROM drives don't read home burnt CDs.

Al,
Yeah, seems straight forward. FWIW, all the auntorun.inf files I checked had [autorun] - all lower case. Could it be that the autorun interface is that stupid? Could you have a bad CD?

compared the contents of the manufacturer... Yes - the same.

self-created CDs ever autorun in that machine or any other Yes, they have. I have a backup copy of the W2K PRO installation CD that has sometimes autorun on an XPP system and sometimes on W2K systems.

Al,
Got me. Might be a bad batch of CDs if they are all from the same package. I'd give Joe's suggestion about changing "AutoRun" to "autorun" (without the quotes, of course) a try, but I'm guessing that you closed the session on those CDs and will have to start over to try that. On the bright side, the media is not very expensive these days.
