image prints from some pcs not others (word97 sr2b)

I'm not quite sure if this is in the correct post ie Word or perhaps it should be windowsNT.
We have several documents with a graphic image embedded.
From some pcs the image prints out while on other pcs the resulting print out doesnt print the image.
I've checked the printer driver configurations on the pcs & in Word the print graphic settings & they are the same on the pcs printing/not printing the image.

On the pcs not printing, the only way I can get it to print is if I double click the image > a message is displayed 'The picture contains embedded PostScript information. Converting it to Word drawing objects will discard any data not seen in the visible metafile. Do you want to proceed anyway?
I click OK & the image is converted.
The result is the image prints however the intergrity & quality of the image is lost on the print out.

Is there something I'm missing ie another setting in Word or do I need some file .dll to install on the pc, so from Word when the image is sent to the printer the image prints.
I've attached a test doc with the image so you can play around with it.
    many thanks.

Do the PCs all have the same amount of RAM? If you do a reboot on a dud machine, can it print before other applications chew up the RAM? Have they all got "Include Drawing Objects" turned on in the print options?

I would have said you should be getting two different results - high res vector vs low res bitmap - results between different printers and printer drivers depending on whether Postscript is being used. The absence of any graphic at all points to a non-postscript issue because the EPS includes a header.

This graphic is likely to remain a problem child though as not everyone has postscript printers/drivers and those that don't will get the low res version. I recommend converting the graphic to a vector format such as WMF or EMF and using that instead.

    Hey Andrew

all our printer drivers are postcript. how would I go about converting the graphic to a vector format such as WMF, EMF?

You will probably have to go back to the original package that it was drawn in and export it from there. I don't think you will have much luck extracting the EPS into a good vector drawing package. Perhaps the Office of Titles can help you out (although that logo looks like they could have spent more time getting the curve fitting right)

The graphic is pretty easy to replicate if you can't get back to the original and I can have a look at it tonight if you like.

Even though all your printers are postscript and use postscript drivers, what about when the file is sent outside or taken on laptop to another location? EPS is just too picky a format for PCs to ensure good results in all situations.

Could you try changing the object type by 'Ctrl+X'ing it to the clipboard and using Paste Special to change it to a Word Picture object, or some other supported type.

By simplifying the object you should be able to get it to the printer.
