Caveat: BackUp MyPC

A few months ago, when I installed BUMP 4.81, I told the install NOT to install the Veritas Storage Manager.
Fine, it obeyed my wishes.

I installed the 4.85 upgrade on 17 Feb and have noticed continual unexplained disk activity.
Today, I discovered that the upgrade silently installs the Veritas Storage Manager?

So I used Add/Remove programs to delete the critter. Then I did a hard reboot to make sure.

There is NO excuse for silently installing such features in an upgrade.

Hi, Howard ~

I wish to know what/how the hard boot works and what occurs "to make sure" the action you performed sticks.

Also, per your suggestion in another post recently, if I do a hard boot, should I have the document open or just the app running or neither?

Hi Howard:
Thanks for this. I have been thinking of upgrading Backup Exec 4.21 to BackupMyPC 4.85 (they'e told me there's a special upgrade price ). Was the Veritas Storage Manager listed separately in Add/Remove? What is it supposed to do?

When you do a reboot, all documents should be closed and apps shut down.

Hard boot will remove memory resident thingees.

You can verify that a critter was uninstalled by checking the Add/Remove programs list.

It's listed separately.
