    POST TROUBLES

There was once written what the various sounds meant when the machine is running POST. In my case lighting the fire resulted in long periodic beeps. Further the on/off switch would not turn the machine off, had to pull the plug! Ugly, ugly.
Is there a place where I can find the POST beep decryption?

    Hi, Ladimer ~

The exact meaning of the beep codes depends on the type and version of BIOS that you have. The three most popular types of BIOS are those made by Award, American Megatrends (AMI) and Phoenix.

There is also a decent pull-out list of POST codes in the March 2003 issue of Maximum PC (minimum BS) magazine. That same issue has a section on XP Troubleshooting Xplained that includes STOP error codes, etc. Worth a look if you see it on your newsstands.

Long ago, there was a time when men cursed and beat on the ground with sticks. It was called witchcraft.
    Today it is called golf!
