    win98 shutdown

I had a few problems with win98 shutdown error msg etc. Downloaded new drivers for onboard soundcard etc and this took error messages away. Win98 shutting down screen stayed on though and message to turn comp off never came on screen.
By unchecking irq steering in control panel-system - system devices-pci bus-irq steering and then unchecking this the comp then shut down quickly and normaly.
By doing this will this effect computer performance or is irq steering only used during startup etc. Thanks for replies from those more knowledgable than I

    I don't claim to be more knowledgeable <img src=/S/grin.gif border=0 alt=grin width=15 height=15>, but take a look at these posts: <post#=158620>post 158620</post#>, <post#=219000>post 219000</post#>, & <post#=218907>post 218907</post#>.

Thanks had a look at the diff patches etc but windows "msn" advised disabelling irq steering and to contact bios manufacturer
just wanted to know if disabelling irq steering effects comp conformance or is all irq assigning done when booting so it doesn't really matter if irq steering is on or off once machines boots ok.

    Re: win98 shutdown

I'm not sure. I had the problem & applied the patch. For awhile, I had no problems & then some intermittant problems. I now do not use suspend; I just turn off the monitor & leave things on.
    Cheers,
