Clean install of XP upgrade version (XP upgrade)

If I have the Win 2000 PRO upgrade CD-ROM, will I be able to do the following:

    1. Reformat the hard drive.
    2. Install Win XP Pro upgrade CD-ROM, using the Win 2000 Pro upgrade CD-ROM as proof of ownership of previous version.

Should be able, I have used a Windows 95 CD as proof on a clean install. Trying to do a upgrade on the same machine, Windows XP installer would NOT allow it to be done.

Now running HP Pavilion a6528p, with Win7 64 Bit OS.

Please clarify, the second sentence seems to indicate that a Win 2000 Pro upgrade CD cannot be used to qualify for a Win XP Upgrade installation.

Read my first sentence, Yes, you should be able to use the 2K upgrade CD.

As for the second sentence, XP upgrade from a 95 machine is NOT supported, because most machines of this age, the hardware is not good enough. But the CD is valid for a upgrade to XP as long as the hardware will support it. Just because the side of the box says Windows 98 or newer, does not mean the OS.
