Compile Error on Start & Close (Excel 2000 SR3)

I have just had to reformat the HD and re-install Win2000 SR3 and Office 2000 SR3. Since the re-install each time I start Excel I get a message - - Compile Error in hidden module:AutoExecNew
I hit OK and everything appears to work normally until I close Excel when I get the following message --
Compile Error in hidden module: DistMon.

Would someone please tell me how to fix this problem, and what caused it.

Re: Compile Error on Start & Close (Excel 2000 SR3)

Try opening Excel without any addins or hidden workbooks:

    Start, Run,
    "C:Program FilesMicrosoft OfficeOfficeExcel.exe" /Automation

Quotes mandatory, Note you may have to change the path.

If your error disappears, there is either an add-in or a (hidden) workbook that is loaded upon XL's start, which bothers you.

    - Try locating the XLSTART directory, move everything from there.
    - In XL: Tools, Addins, note the ones checked and uncheck them one at the time, each time restarting XL
    - In XL, Tools, options, general. Check if a path is entered after "Alternate startup file location". Clear it.

Thank you very much Jan, I found two files in the XLSTART directory, one for Acrobat and one for Winfax. Removed them both and problems have gone.

    Most grateful
