    Powerpoint 97 Spellchecker (Office 97)

    Help,!
I have a user with a problem. She is using Office 97 and is getting a message that says something similar to "cannot load the spelling checker" when using the spell checker in either excel or power point. The problem is not apparent in Word, but I've discovered that it seems Word 97 uses a different spell checker to the other office apps.
I cant find reference to any component of the spell checker used by Power point or Excel as I imagine it's a corrupt file or DLL.
    Anyone seen this before?

The MSKB article PPT97: Unable to Spell Check After Changing Language of Default Dictionary suggests that it has something to do with changing the default language. It only applies to PowerPoint though.

    No
I've tried that but it doesn't address the problem. The default language hasn't changed,
The error ocourrs in Powerpoint and Excel but not Word.

It's causing some anxiety now, anyone any further ideas / suggestion how excel and Powerpoint might pick up their spellchecker as I'm thinking this might be corrupt...

Consider it done - BTW, for regular hyperlinks you can do it as:
    [ url ]http://www.echosvoice.com[ /url ]
so you don't have to repeat it using the url= syntax. That's most useful if you want to do:
    [ url=http://www.echosvoice.com ]Echo's Website[ /url ]
Note that I put spaces in the above expressions so they wouldn't become actual hyperlinks - here's what they look like without the spaces:
    http://www.echosvoice.com
    Echo's Website
I often use the second syntax when referring to MS KBase articles and put the title in the description section.

I should also note that you can edit your own messages by clicking on the icon that has a red X and a pencil - you see it only on messages you posted.

Thanks, Wendell. I learn more and more each time I mess up!
I see the benefit of adding the KB article titles for the link description. Thanks for the info.

    Thanks very much all
The last two articles led me on to the missing mssp dll's
The user has these added to the correct folder and all's well for her now, spelling in powerpoint is back.

    Thanks again ....... <img src=/S/bravo.gif border=0 alt=bravo width=16 height=30>
