    Service Release 3 (Office 2000/SR2)

Where can I order the Office Service Release 3 as a CD ROM? The download from Microsoft will take an hour or more, and I have to sit there waiting for prompts to insert the original CD when I could be doing more productive tasks. The Microsoft site doesn't seem to provide any way to email a request about this item (at least I can't find one).

Microsoft published so far only two patches for Office 2000 - Service Release 1 and Service Release 1a (the secnd one is updated version of the first one). In addition for this patch, Microsoft published Service Pack 2 and Service Pack 3 updates (SP3 is the latest replacement of SP2).
You can obtain the Office 2000 SR1a, Office 2000 SP3, and Office 2000 Server Extensions Service Pack 3 updates free of charge on CD-ROM in North America. To order the CD online, go to the Office 2000 SP3 order form. The CD contains the SR1a update as well as the SP3 updates.

    Hello Betsy,

These updates are available free of charge for download from the Microsoft Office Download centre, at http://office.microsoft.com/Downloads/default.aspx.

You can download them to your computer and do the installation later - you don't have to install them on-line. Yes, they'll still take quite a while to download (especially over a slow connection), but at least you can get on with other work while that's happening.

    Cheers

I always order the CD's, then I always will have a good copy. I started doing this when I was on a 56 K modem and was getting slow and/or bad downloads.

See post <!post= Order on DC, 192882> Order on DC<!/post>
You can also obtain Office 2002 SP-1 and 2 on CD-ROM by calling the Microsoft Order Desk at (800) 360-7561.

Nasty! When I got my SR1a CD a year or two ago, it seemed bad enough having to pay p&p to fix an already paid for product. Makes you worry about the next improvement to customer service?

    Don't expect a quick response.

    I ordered the SP3 on 14 Nov 2002.
Did not receive until Feb 2003

    Hi Dave,

That's fine in some parts of the world but, here in Oz, M$ <img src=/S/wartgun.gif border=0 alt=wartgun width=73 height=24> has just told me that the CD for each service release/pack will cost the equivalent of <img src=/S/money.gif border=0 alt=money width=17 height=15> US$6 (ie US$18 in all) and that I should allow six weeks for delivery <img src=/S/snail.gif border=0 alt=snail width=21 height=17>. Even my modem is faster than that, and my ISP charges less too <img src=/S/exclamation.gif border=0 alt=exclamation width=15 height=15>

You are right, I forget. Being that MS is 13 miles away, but the some of the CD"s are shipped from the Mid-West part of the US.

Re: Service Release 3 (Office 2000/SR2)

Thanks for the notes about ordering a CD ROM version of Service Pack 3. I just did that from the online ordering site, and there was no charge, but a 6-9 week waiting notice. That's OK. I haven't decided if I'll install it anyhow. The newsletters from Woody keep talking about so many gymnastics one has to go through that I'm not sure it's worth the bother. You know, if you have XXX, you need utility YYY, and program AAA can be affected, so you have to do BBB techie stuff. Sigh. Will Microsoft ever let us do anything the easy way?
