How to start Outlook at foo.pst (Outlook 2000)

Is there a way to automatically start Outlook so that it's focused on one of my personal stores? I know about using the /Select switch to focus on a system folder, but it seems not to work when I name a personal folder.

    Thanks for your help.

    Best regards,

    David

Could you post the command line{s} you've tried? It may just be the syntax. The MS command line switch references for Outlook are a bit sparse on detail and examples.

You might also have a look at Using Hyperlinks to Access Outlook Folders and Items to try and combine what's there for use with "/select" (ignore the OL97 bit, it seems to work fine for 2000).

Sure. Thanks for helping! By the way, if it turns out to be difficult to achieve this with a command line switch, is there a VBA code snippet that I can run when Outlook starts up, that will go to the folder?

    Best regards, David

The name of the personal folder is "02. Personal"
The folder's pathname is "galaxyhabermehloutlook folderspersonal.pst"

    ----------------------------------------------

Command line: outlook /select "02. Personal"
Result: "The command line argument is not valid. Verify the switch you are using."

Command line: outlook /select Outlook:"02. Personal"
Result: "Unable to display the selected folder or item.""

Command line: outlook /select Outlook:"02. Personal"
Result: "Unable to display the selected folder or item. Could not complete the operation. One or more parameter values are not valid."

    Command line: outlook /select Outlook:"galaxyhabermehloutlook folderspersonal.pst"
Result: "Unable to display the selected folder or item. Could not complete the operation. One or more parameter values are not valid."

    Command line: outlook /select "Outlook:galaxyhabermehloutlook folderspersonal.pst"
Result: "Unable to display the selected folder or item. Could not complete the operation. One or more parameter values are not valid."

Your third attempt was close, and should work if you drop the quotes and reverse the slashes, like so:

    /select Outlook://02. Personal
    <font face="Comic Sans MS" color="blue">TimOz</font>
    <img src=/S/flags/Finland.gif border=0 alt=Finland width=30 height=18> <img src=/S/flags/Australia.gif border=0 alt=Australia width=30 height=18>
