    Printing (xp home)

I cannot print any emails I have received or sent. Nothing works (e.g., FILE-PRINT, PRINT icon, Ctrl + P). I've tried updating menus and toolbars without success. I can, however, print contacts, calendar and tasks. I have an HP LJ1100 (not the sleekest printer in the world). My OS is XP.

When I try any of the above approaches to print an email message, absolutely nothing happens. Word is not set as my email editor.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

When you go to print do you have Table or Memo style selected? Memo style should let you print the email message from either the Inbox or from the open email message. Also do you receive an error message when you try to print?

    Hope this helps

    Re: Printing (xp home)

Thanks for the response. When I try to print emails, nothing happens. I do not even get to the point where I can select the format in which the emails will appear (even when I go to File-Print). I do not even get to the print dialog box. I've performed "detect and repair" several times. Something tells me that Outlook simply does not recognize that my outdated printer is even attached to my rather expensive computer.

You might want to go to HP's web site www.hp.com and see if there is an updated driver for your printer. I have found that HP printers and WinXP and Office XP aren't very friendly with each other and that trying an updated driver helps.

    Good luck

    Re: Printing (xp home)

Thanks again, but no go. The website is nonresponsive today. However, my past attempts to obtain an updated driver were unsuccessful. Lots of opportunities to buy a new printer, but no support for my older model. I find it odd that I'm experiencing this problem only with respect to printing emails. I'll keep digging. If you think of something else, I'd greatly appreciate it.

    Thanks.

    Re: Printing (xp home)

One other suggestion, if you have XP as your OS, try uninstalling your printer and reinstalling it again. Disconnect your printer cable and restart your PC, then plug your printer back in and restart your PC so it will go thru plug and play again and see if there is a driver that comes with XP instead of installing the driver that came with the PC. It's odd that the only thing you can't print are emails. I can't think of any settings in Outlook that would block you from printing them

    Best of luck

Try this. Click on your Inbox, select View, Current, Define. Select the Inbox View you usually use (not the "Current View", which will be automagically selected at the top of the list, but the Name for the View you use), and click Reset, OK out. Let us know if this helps the printing problem. If it does, thank <!profile=MaryJ>MaryJ<!/profile>.

Thanks. You properly directed me in the direction of my printer settings. I still cannot find an updated driver for my HP LJ1100. However, I set the default to "paper bin" instead of "auto select." After I did this, all print commands responded.

    You're a gem.

The driver page is here: HP LJ1100 Series Drivers. Would you like me to grab a driver for you? If so which OS, and is your printer the straight LJ1100 model, or does it have a few extra letters (a, se, xi) after it?
