Windows XP Backup (XP Home SR 1)

I just installed the XP backup to the XP Home addition, SR 1. When I first activate it I get a message saying "Backup Utility cannot connect to the removable storage service. Please exit and start the removable storage service using the System Server Function of the Management Console." But I can still continue, and can get backup to begin (to my firewire hard-drive.) After 2 plus MB the backup stops, with some comment or other about if I'm using FAT 32, etc. (I'm not; I'm NTFS). Does this backup utility work; is it reliable; and how can I get it to function?

Microsoft's backup utility in XP Home is seriously crippled.

If you do a search in this forum for "backup" (without the quotes), you'll find lots of posts about this subject, with possible alternatives.

Do you recommend not using it?
