Extra lines in MMerge Labels (Word 2K)

I have a notion that this topic may have been discussed before, but I would welcome any help on the subject.

Tools > Mail Merge > Create Mailing Labels.

Get through the menus OK until the end. My Labels are produced BUT, there are two blank lines at the end of the fields driving the other lines to the top of the label. I want them centred vertically. I can run through the labels and remove them, but this is VERY TEDIOUS.

Suggestions please.

Not sure why you are getting two blank lines at the end of the label fields as I only get one. One trick is to suppress the printing of blank lines in the merge options, but how are you attempting to vertically center the label (I'm using Word 2002 now and it has several alignment options that I don't think Word 2K had)? The main merge document is a table with the cell for each label containing the field codes to complete one label.

You can use Edit > Replace... and replace ^p^p with ^p (two consecutive para symbols with one).

To center vertically in a cell, use the Tables toolbar; I don't see the option on the menu.

It's in the right click menu when you have a table cell selected.

You know... I meant that one at the top of the screen.

I thought you might. But the tables and borders toolbar takes up so much space on the screen that it is worth avoiding when possible.

Thanks Jefferson.
I had already set the text alignment for the complete Table cells as Centre & Left ( from a right click on short cut menu ), but as there are 2 blank lines present it centered the label including those blank lines. I should have remembered the search and replace ^p dodge.
My problem is having to teach Office 2K in one College and Office XP in another, and remember the various menus and Wizards. Can't say I'm too keen on the Word XP Mail Merge Wizard, , I have put the old 2K Mail Merge helper on the tool bar of XP but guess I'll have to get my head around the XP version soon,
