I asked something like this last year - see <post#=158980>post 158980</post#>. It is a known bug of the Lounge software, but it's not important enough for Claude and Eileen to spend much time on. After all, who cares (except for you and me? )

Thanks Hans. Some call it nitpicking, but I consider being observant a valuable survival skill.

(I usually search before posting, and of course forgot to do it for something critical! )

It just means that 4 posts were made for a question that was never asked. That way your answer is always right because there was no Thread to compare it to.

Thats because our parents had already done it before and knew the symtoms, and, or nessasary actions to perform what ever it was we had done, or was going to do. And don't forget that they had to walk 20 miles to get to school, up hill, both ways, in tha snow, bare footed because they didn't want to mess up the only pair of shoes they had. That, or they all worked for the CIA and are lying to cover up a conspiracy to confuse us all.

... and an essential programming/debugging skill.

My experience with "little problems" is that they often hide much larger problems. "We can fix that by changing it to a 32-bit value" (1 day later) "It did WHAT?" uncovering major defects elsewhere.

Is this where we should panic? You're not forecasting the imminent demise of the Lounge?

Your comments remind me of a clever and supremely confident IBM systems programmer I used to work with. He used to stay back after hours to apply "liitle tweaks" to the system. And always seemed genuinely shocked that the system was down when he strolled in, often after morning tea. (In the prehistoric days before mobile phones.)

    > You're not forecasting the imminent demise of the Lounge

I've never spoken to Denise, how would I know (grin!)

No. I believe that this philosophy is well-used in Aerospace circles. There is often not one single cause of a collision, rather there are a series of small events leading to a large event. "If we hadn't got that feather stuck in the ....".

I suspect the same in computer programming. "Oh, it's just that THIS field is too small, I'll make it 4-byte instead of 2, no problem", but that triggers a larger event that might go undetected (read "corrupted data") for a while until some other event uncovers it.
