Sections - Footnotes and Page Layout (Word 2000)

I am writing a paper that has multiple chapters. Footnotes are required to restart at 1 in each new chapter. The only way I know how to do this is to create each chapter as a new section and select the footnote option that restarts numbering in each section. Now the problem. Within a given chapter I have examples that need to be on a landscaped page. The only way I know how to do this is to create a new section and change the page layout. However, creating the new section for the landscaped page results in the footnotes being renumbered in the middle of the chapter. Is there a way to get some pages landscaped without screwing up the footnote numbering?

    Thanks in advance,
    Tom

    Tom,

Working with Word 2000, you may be stuck, as the options you choose must apply to 'All Footnotes'. Only likely workaround is to set them to restart at each section, and when your paper is completed, go to the landscape section, go into the Footnote and Endnote / Note Options dialog, and 'hard-code' the footnotes for that section to start at a number that is continuous from the last number of the previous (portrait) section.

It looks like Word 2002 would give you more flexibility in this area, as it gives you the option to apply footnote number restart rules to This Section, Selected Selections, Selected Text, and Whole Document.

The other workaround is to create your chapters as separate documents. You can work with the paper as a whole to some extent using RD fields, or so I have read on this board - I've never done it myself.

I was afraid that I was out of luck. Adding the landscaped pages at the end is probably the best solution.

    Thanks,

Depending on what you have on your Landscape pages, you may be able to configure them as portrait and rotate the contents, for example by putting the text in a table.
