    Remove 'Read Only' (Woord 2000)

When I try to open a certain Word file a window pops up saying "xxxxx.doc is reserved by - enter a password or click on Read Only". Is there a way for me to open this file as a regular Word document so I can modify it and save it without the password protection?

Did you make this file or did you get it from some one else?

Open as Read Only, modify and use Save As to give the document a new name.

Tried that but the new file still requires a password or open as read only

" I got it from someone else "
You will need to get the password from the person that added it to the file.
    Sorry.

Solved! I have no idea who created it. It is just a one page registration form that I would like to send to others to complete, but with the password requirement, I think it will turn some off, even if I tell them to select the read only option. It is not a proprietary or copyrighted form, and I hope there might be a way to hack this. The solution was to open the file in read only, select the whole document (Ctrl-A), Copy (Ctrl-C), and paste to a new document. I can now open the new document without a password. I knew it could be hacked.

You can remove the Password setting when you doing the Save As. In the Save As dialog box. select Tools, General Options and just clear the Password to Modify.
