JPG's in Win 98

How do I get jpeg's to show up on the desktop (via Background) without going to troublsome programs like wallmaster or the like? At this time Win 98 only seems to allow only bitmaps. Am I stuck with this picture format?

    Thanks for any helpful information!!

I believe you can do an "Active Desktop" to view any picture format compatible with HTML.. (Gif, JPEG, BMP) It's been my experience that Active Desktop isn't exactly bulletproof.. (then just what, from microsoft, is?)

I would recommend converting your prize JPEG to BMP. You can download from www.jasc.com. (they have a 30-day trial version) to convert your files, or you may be able to search www.download.com for an image converter.

Try IRFANView it can SAVE AS almost any file type under the sun, it's Lite, and very versatile for conversions and other things.

    Hope that helps!

Try viewing the JPEG in a browser, right-click it and choose Set as Wallpaper. You can tweak the display through the dialog (center, tile, stretch). Check out my photos: http://community.webshots.com/user/jscher2k; I'm sure you have a friend who needs this one on his/her PC right now.

I know you said that you don't want to resort to an outside program, but Desktop Architect can manage it for you very simply and it is FREEEEEEEEE..

It can be downloaded from most shareware/freeware sites and can manage themes etc as well as just the wallpaper. if you only have it running the wallpaper it doesn't have to run all of the time thereby saving resources.

    get it from http://www.download.com
