    Forcing HTML Format (Outlook XP)

    I am trying to find a setting in Outlook XP that will let me force all outgoing email to be compsed in HTML. I've found a setting in Outlook Express 6.0, but was wondering if there's a similar setting in O XP. Thanks.

    Have you tried "Tools, Options, and then the Preferences tab. Look for and find "Compose in this message format:" and then select "HTML"

    Now running HP Pavilion a6528p, with Win7 64 Bit OS.

    I'm sorry, I should have been clearer in my post. What I want to do is force all email, including replies, to be sent in HTML format. There was a setting in Outlook Express (Tools | Options | Send tab | Reply to messages using the same format...). When you clear that box, it forces all email to be sent in the default format regardless of what the originating format was. I'm looking for a similar option in Outlook XP. I'm pretty sure there is no setting for that in Outlook. Replies just take on the format of the original item. You'd have to write some code and attach it to a custom reply button.

    btw - you might want to re-think using HTML, depending on the nature of your recipients and the formatting you do. A lot of companies convert HTML to plain text. Fancy links and such show up as links.

    Ah...ok.

    As for coporate filters, I'm using Outlook with a dial-up account, so there's no filters to go through. I'm just using it for my personal email =)

    You don't need to use a custom button, you can able to attach the code to the

    Private Sub Application_ItemSend(ByVal Item As Object, Cancel As Boolean)

    Event, and convert everything automagically to HTML with something like

    Item.HTMLBody = Item.Body

    but there may be a number of wrinkles to manage in terms of formatting to HTML, and if your intent is to "jazz up" the appearance of the sent HTML message that's a whole issue in itself.

    You're of course right about using the send event. But there's no opportunity to "jazz" it up. I was thinking along the lines of some code that would take the selected mail item, start a reply, set the HTMLbody then display.
