Carry Forward data to Next Record (ACC97 - SR1)

I am collecting Statistical data for Products running down an assembly line. There are 10 Machines in the line, and they are operating for three shifts. (Day, Afternoon, & Night)
I have a table which has as a Multiple Key the following fields.
Date; Shift; Size (of product); and Machine Id.

I have created a form which is set to 'Continuous forms', and I have placed fields for Date; Shift; and Size, in the Form Header. The variable (Machine Id), is the first field in the 'Detail' section of my form.

Problem: How to carry forward the data for Date; Shift & Size, for each new record, (BTW, I have a button which clears the three fields in the Form Header, when date, size or shift changes. This is OK). However, when I tab to the next new record, the three fields in the Form header are cleared. I wish to carry the previous data forward, until I have completed entry for all 10 machines.

I have tried to search this forum, (as I am sure I have seen a solution somewhare using after_update Event), but did not know what term to use in my search. Tried 'carry forward' and 'next record' but did not answer my query.

    TIA for any help offered.

    Hi Devious,

Searching for something like "duplicate values new record" or "copy values new record" would have yielded results, I think.

Take a look at the thread starting at <post#=138575>post 138575</post#>, in particular (shameless plug) <post#=138763>post 138763</post#>, where I attached a demo based on an example by Microsoft.

Many Thanks to both patt & HansV

As usual your posts solved problem.

I guess searching is a bit like looking up a Dictionary to find out how to spell a word.
