    PPT vs Excel/Word VBA (PPT97/SR2)

In an earlier post I discussed the use of Range versus selection, with Range coming out on top.

Yesterday, in an unbridled fit of enthusiasm, I migrated my 400+ procedures Word/VBA utility template (Utils.dot) to Utils.XLS, shedding temporarily many of the procedures that requre specific DLLs to be referenced.

Flushed (!) with my success, today I essayed with importing those same vanilla modules in PowerPoint (Why Not!) and discovered that PowerPoint doesn't seem to deal with Ranges as-we-know-them. Nor Selections!

My theory was that I could assemble a set of vanilla code (string and number handling, some ASCII serial text file routines and some GUI form utilities) that could be used as a standard library in any of the Office/VBA environments.

My brief foray suggests that I should build and maintain a stream of versions of a Utils.PPT, and peridocially "compile" the latest version down a one-way street, also known as "Saving as a powerpoint ADD-IN" (*.PPA).

I'd appreciate comments from anyone else who has tried this. Anyone embarking on PPT/VBA may freely request a copy of my embryonic PPA.

I'm also spending my time in traffic considering how best to implement the various other multi-referenced chunks of code.

What application? It's a Library that I'm building - a library of utility procedures.

More correctly, I'm dis-assembling my Utils.DOT and making it transportable to Excel.XLS(or XLT or XLA) and PPT.PPA.

    It's a follow-on from this post
