    Multiple instances of a bookmark in a document (Word 2000)

    I have a template that lists the Full Legal Name of the applicant at the top of each page (about 4 pages). What I would like to do is have it automatically appear in the other three bookmarks when the name is entered into the first bookmark, i.e.

    FLN_1 - Enter full legal name here...
    FLN_2 = FLN_1
    FLN_3 = FLN_1
    FLN_4 = FLN_1

    I have tried ActiveDocument.Bookmarks("FLN_2").Range.Text = ActiveDocuement.Bookmarks("FLN_1").Range.Text but that returns an error. Can anyone suggest a way to fix my problem?

    One way to do this is to

    1) add the initial bookmark (manually or programmatically to the document.
    2) Insert reference fields to that bookmark at all other locations in the doc.

    Exactly how do I use the reference fields or where can I find samples? I found it in the help, but am still lost. {REF FLN_1}????

    First, do it manually to get the idea of what's going on:

    Put the IP in the document where you want the second reference of
    FLN_1 to appear. Then click Insert | Field and pick Ref from the list.

    Word 2002 let's you pick the bookmark from a list; in Word 97 you
    have to type the bookmark name in the text box. Word 2000, I don't
    know. When you click Ok, the value in bookmark FLN_1 will appear
    in the ref field. Pretty straighforward, eh?

    An even quicker way to get the same result is to press <Ctrl>-F9 to insert the field (displays as { }) where you want the name to appear, then type FLN_1 between the braces and then press F9 again.

    Somewhat peripheral to your query, but the following short articles on the Word MVP site, are some of the best I've read on "taming" bookmarks - one of the most potentially useful features of Word, yet one of the most unwieldy IMHO:

    Working with Bookmarks in VBA
    Inserting text at a bookmark without deleting the bookmark
