Run Time Error 1004 (Excel 2000)

    Hi there,

I have an excel spreadsheet with macros and VBA which works fine on my PC
However on another PC (spreadsheet sent by email) I get the following:

    Run- time error '1004'
Application defined or object defined error

If I press end the spreadsheet appears to work

Why is it happening and how can I fix it?

    Regards

    Richard

Does the error occur when you open the spreadsheet or at other times?

Can you press the "Debug" button to see code which generates the error? If the VBA project is protected, you will have to unprotect it first in order for the "Debug" button to be enabled.

I intentionally generated the error below for the "Debug" picture.

    Thanks Mike,

Actually on the other machine the VBA was protected so the Debug button was unavailable.
So will give it a go.
It still sems strange though thst I don't get the error on my PC.
Both machines have the same version of Excel

    Regards

Well, if it was protected on the other machine, chances are that it is still protected and thus the "Debug" button will be unavailable.

I do not remember specifically what "1004" refers to, although I have had more than my share if I remember correctly, but there are several things it could be that do not relate specifically to the Excel application setup or version.

Have you tried holding the shift key down when opening the file?

Best case scenario is to get the VBA password, remove the password lock on the project, save the book, reopen, and let "Debug" show you where the error is generated.
