Macromedia shockwave player

I am having a very unproductive time trying to download the shockwave player! When I click to download, I get the publisher's verification box and I say Yes and the next box that comes up is the download box that just sits there. I have to "end task" to even get rid of it. I have tried using the Shockwave uninstaller with no avail. I have hunted in the registry for every mention of macromedia or shockwave and gotten rid of them (probably not a good thing - but hey, I felt better!!)

But I am still at an impass. It will not download.....the flashplayer did just fine! But not this dude. I would appreciate any suggestions to overcome this problem. Oh yes, I did run the "repair" for IE ver. 5.50.4807.2300 but that didn't help either. .

Tell me what I am doing wrong!! TIA and hope the day gets better!

    Re: Macromedia shockwave player

    Hi, Skit ~

Go to this page and download 8.5, the third item on the list down in the 'Windows' column. This is the stand-alone installer. Save to desktop and then run from there (I would save this copy). I have found using stand-alone installers and stand-alone players (flash only) alleviates all the issues with Macromedia downloads and most related local ActiveX problems.
