Windows 2000 compatibility (Project 4.1)

I just bought a brand new sealed copy of Project 4.1 for Windows 95. (Amazing what you can find on eBAY!) I have a machine still running Win 95, but I'd like to install it on my main computer running Windows 2000. There seem to be several conflicting views on the Win 2000 compatibility question. Microsoft KB article 155244 says you have to upgrade to version 4.1a. But I can't find 4.1a anywhere to download.

Do any of you Project experts have suggestions before I go ahead and attempt an installation?

Thanks,
Cam

I would suggest upgrading to the next version, however, you might be able to find the download here.

Gary,

There aren't any 4.1a downloads at the Microsoft site. I went ahead and installed 4.1 anyway. So far no problems, but because I'm a complete beginner with Project I haven't tried anything complicated yet.
You're probably right about upgrading to 98 at least, just to be on the safe side.

Thanks for the advice.

Even if a beginner, I would suggest starting wtih Project 98 (or newer version) as Project can only open files from two versions prior. Thus, someone running project 2002 wouldn't be able to open your files.

Also - The tutorial in 98 is pretty good as well.

Gary,

Thanks again for the help.
I know this is starting to get off topic, but what's your opinion of Project 2000?
I use Office 2000 and actually prefer it to Office XP--no task panes, etc. Would the integration between Office and Project be better if I upgrade directly to 2000?
And are there enough improvements in Project 2000 to offset the additional cost?

If you gave me the choice of using Project 98 and 2000, I would go with 2000. I would assume that the integration would be better with 2000. I am sure you could check the Microsoft Knowledgebase to get a listing of new features in 2000 as well.

If you go with 2000, the Reference Book, Special Edition using Microsoft Project 2000 by Tim Pyron is very good. Check other posts for other reference materials as well.
