    Future-dated files (XP Home)

I happened to notice some files in my "C:System Volume Information_restore" folder with names like "A0040757.sys" (see attached). The odd thing is that they're dated in the future (this one is 24Sep2032).

Attachment: I changed it's filetype from sys to txt, because WPR objected.

    Just curious

I'm gonna give you a "SWAG" on this one, since I don't really know what far-out thoughts are in the heads of MS programmers! I think that folder has something to do with System Restore, since I have that feature turned off and those folders are EMPTY on my machine. Probably some technical reason "they" always want some files to show up to the system as the "newest," so they picked the easy way to do that by pre-dating. Who knows what evil lurks in the halls of MS - the Shadow do.....

Thanks Al. Oh well, I suppose I'll have upgraded from XP by 2032. Hope they've come up with a more elegant method by then!

PS: How do you turn off system restore?

Sure thing. Right-click My Computer, click Properties and you should see a tab for System Restore. BUT, be SURE you really want to do it. System Restore has saved many an XP user a lot of time. The only reason I don't bother with it is that I make regular images of all my partitions and I'm content to live with that.

    Dale,
I have check my machines and NONE of them have ANY ".sys" type of files. I think it will disappear as the restore points rotate.

Now running HP Pavilion a6528p, with Win7 64 Bit OS.
