    Briefcase sychronization (O2K SP3)

I'm trying to update a workbook that I have placed in a briefcase. If I make changes in the briefcase workbook and then make changes in the original workbook, the update process needs to do a merge of the workbooks. When update is clicked the following message apppears.

'Test.xls' will not be updated because its merge handler cannot be opened

What am i doing wrong or need to do to correct this problem?
Problem occurs on the same system or across a P2P network.
    Any ideas would be appreciated.

    Re: Briefcase sychronization (O2K SP3)

No - I had already found that KB article. The files are stored as "Excel Workbooks". Tried storing them as "97 - 2000" and got the same error. Tried registry hack, and got the same error.
Error does not occur when dragging the files into the briefcase. The error occurs when trying to update the file after changes are made in both the briefcase and original location.
The article sounds like a conflict between O97 and O2K. These files are O2k files.
