Compare Files and Folders

Any advice or good finds would be appreciated...

I want to be able to compare files and folders between hard disk / computers and maybe even do a little cataloguing? Any advice?
I want a good program so I'm willing to pay for it.

Your wisdom is appreciated!

I'm not sure if this is exactly what you are looking for. But I have been using this program for a couple of years and simply love it. There are many things it can do.... perhaps a quick read here: SuperCat will quickly tell you if it is applicable to your needs.

And there's also Araxis Merge.

Al,

If that is the type of program he's looking for, then I'll second your recommendation for Araxis Merge. I've used it for about 3 years and it is just plain great. It has served me well.

Re: Compare Files and Folders

It sounds to me like the freebie program ViceVersa might help you. I believe the site is www.tqrmn.com although perhaps I got it from Tudogs freebie site.
I use it for synching a folder that has many subfolders with backup copy on another disk. Has many options and capabilities.

Re: Compare Files and Folders

I believe the link you were intending is http://www.tgrmn.com/. I'm not familiar with the program but I didn't see anything on the site or in their screenshots about the ability to compare FILES. That's one of the features of Merge that I've used a lot. I also don't think it's free, is it? I saw a $30 price tag there.

P.S. Since I'm a native New York'er, since when is New York in ZAMBIA?

Re: Compare Files and Folders

Yes I mucked the site - it is TGRMN.COM - and/or TUCOWS.COM freebie site.
Reread the site, it seems to me to claim (on the why choose page) file checking and disk verification down to the bytes.
There is a $30.00 version but so far I have just used the free version with a few less bells and whistles.
It is amazing how far a scroller wheel can move continents. I just used to to move from Zambia back to the USA.
Sorry for the confusion.

Re: Compare Files and Folders

Thanks for straightening that out - I guess I didn't read far enough. But if it does do byte-level file compare and so on, that's a pretty good choice, even at $30 bucks.

And I hope you took my jibe about New York as the teasing it was meant to be. The reason I needled you about it is that I have trouble with pick-list boxes all the time, I have to remember that after selecting something in the picker, click somewhere outside the box, or else.....

Hi Al:
Is Araxis Merge free? I looked on their site & only found a paid version.

Re: Compare Files and Folders

Sorry 'bout that, Phil. No, not only is it NOT free but it's a tad pricey for many folks. I got started using it at work several years ago and it was so good, I decided to buy a copy for at home. But, it don't come cheap!

Thanks for the heads up.

I'm playing with a couple of demos even as we speak.
