    Importing Hotmail addresses into Outlook 2000 (2000/SP-3)

    A co-worker developed a rather extensive list of addresses in an old Hotmail account and now needs to import them into the Contacts folder of Outlook 2000 so he can begin to make use of his new "regular" POP3 e-mail account.

    I contacted Hotmail Help (stop laughing) and received the following suggestion from KB Article 238773:

    1. Using Outlook, add a personal folder and a Personal Address Book to your profile.
    * We did that.

    2. Create a temporary Contacts folder in the new personal folder you just created.
    * We did that, too.

    3. On the Tools menu, click Address Book. Click to select the recipients you want to add as Outlook contacts. Right-click the selected recipients and click Add to Personal Address Book.
    * What? All we get are the addresses already in Outlook contacts! How in the world do we find the addresses in his Hotmail account?!
    - We can't make use of the rest of these 'helpful' instructions until we get past Step 3!

    Please advise...
    4. On the File menu, click Import and Export.
    5. Click Import from another program or file, and then click Next.
    6. In the Select file type to import from list, click Personal Address Book, and then click Next.
    7. Select the temporary Contacts folder previously created, and then click Next.
    8. Click Finish to import the users from your PAB to the Contacts folder in your personal folder.

    Does this earlier thread from the Outlook forum help?

    Not exactly (I tried the afterthought). The number of Contacts increased by 67, but the additional entries appeared at the beginning of the Contacts list but had no visible date; in other words, there were 67 'blank' cards. Where did I go amiss?
